HGMH successfully recruits three physicians to strengthen emergency and inpatient care

Alexandria, Ontario – Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is pleased to welcome three new physicians to its medical team as the hospital expands physician coverage in its Emergency Department (ED) to help meet growing patient volumes.
Dr. Marhaba, Dr. Tanasie and Dr. Schryver have recently joined HGMH, strengthening the team providing emergency care to patients across the region. Dr. Schryver will also provide care on HGMH's Inpatient Unit.
The recruitment comes as HGMH implements additional physician coverage in the Emergency Department through funding received under the Pay-for-Results (P4R) program. The funding has enabled HGMH to add a second emergency physician for a dedicated block of time during the day, providing additional physician capacity when patient volumes are higher.
"We are incredibly pleased to welcome Drs. Marhaba, Tanasie and Schryver to HGMH," said Robert Alldred-Hughes, President & CEO. "Recruiting physicians who are committed to providing excellent care in our community is essential to ensuring the long-term strength and stability of our services. Each of these physicians brings valuable skills and experience to our team, and we are excited to have them choose HGMH."
Dr. Marhaba brings extensive emergency medicine experience from both Canada and Australia. He earned his Bachelor of Science from McGill University before completing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne in Australia. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) and is also certified as a Medical Transport Specialist with Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
After practicing in Australia, Dr. Marhaba has returned to Canada and relocated to Eastern Ontario. In addition to joining HGMH's Emergency Department, he also provides emergency care at Brockville General Hospital.
Dr. Tanasie is an experienced emergency physician with more than 10 years of clinical experience in rural and urban emergency departments across Québec and Ontario.
She earned her medical degree from the Université de Montréal and completed her Family Medicine Residency at McGill University, followed by enhanced skills training in Emergency Medicine at the Université de Sherbrooke, earning her CCFP-EM certification.
Most recently, Dr. Tanasie has been working as a locum physician in rural Ontario, including at Mattawa Hospital and Hôpital Notre-Dame in Hearst. Her previous experience includes work in medical clinics and emergency departments throughout Québec. Dr. Tanasie speaks French, English, Spanish and Romanian, further strengthening HGMH's ability to provide care to a diverse patient population.
For Dr. Schryver, joining HGMH marks a return to a hospital she first came to know during her medical training.
Dr. Schryver earned her Doctor of Medicine from St. Matthew's University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands and completed her Family Medicine Residency through the University of Ottawa. During her second year of residency, she completed electives at HGMH in family medicine, emergency medicine and inpatient care.
Her experience at HGMH and the welcoming rural environment made a lasting impression and influenced her decision to return to the hospital to begin her career. She will provide care in both the Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit.
Dr. Schryver is also completing a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Fellowship. POCUS allows physicians to use portable ultrasound technology at the patient's bedside to assist with clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment decisions. She provides care in both English and French and also speaks basic Spanish.
The arrival of all three physicians reflects HGMH's ongoing commitment to physician recruitment and retention and to building a strong, sustainable medical team that meets the evolving needs of the community.
“The recruitment of the three physicians, together with expanded physician coverage through the P4R program, supports HGMH's ongoing efforts to build a strong and sustainable medical team and ensure patients throughout the region continue to have access to high-quality emergency care close to home.” said Dr. Lisa MacKinnon, Chief of Staff.
HGMH is proud to welcome Dr. Tanasie, Dr. Marhaba and Dr. Schryver to the team.
