HGMH Awarded Exemplary Accreditation Status Following Accreditation Canada Survey

Group of staff gathered to celebrate

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is proud to announce that it has been awarded Exemplary Accreditation Status by Accreditation Canada, the highest level of performance awarded through the national accreditation program.

The onsite survey took place from February 9–12, 2026, during which Accreditation Canada surveyors conducted a comprehensive review of the organization’s programs, services, and governance. Surveyors assessed the hospital against more than 1,900 national standards and Required Organizational Practices (ROPs), engaging in meaningful dialogue with staff, physicians, Board members, volunteers, community partners, patients, and families.

HGMH achieved 100% compliance with all Required Organizational Practices (ROPs). This is a significant accomplishment that reflects the organization’s commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care.

“Achieving Exemplary Accreditation Status is a tremendous honor and a testament to the dedication of our entire team,” said Robert Alldred-Hughes, President and CEO of HGMH. “This recognition reflects years of hard work, collaboration, and commitment to patient safety and quality improvement. I am incredibly proud of our staff, physicians, volunteers, Board members, and community partners who contributed to this success.”

Accreditation Canada’s standards are grounded in best practices and evidence-based care. The Required Organizational Practices focus on high-priority areas essential to patient safety and quality, including medication safety, infection prevention and control, risk management, and governance.

Preparation for the survey has been underway for the past four years. To engage staff and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement, HGMH introduced a creative and team-focused theme known as Wizardry World”. Staff were sorted into “houses” and earned points by completing monthly quality improvement assignments and accreditation readiness activities which supports embedding safety standards into daily practice. The initiative encouraged collaboration, friendly competition, and ongoing learning while reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to excellence.

“This achievement belongs to everyone,” added Alldred-Hughes. “For a hospital our size to achieve this level of accreditation speaks volumes about the passion, teamwork, and dedication of our entire organization. Our community can be proud to know their hospital continues to deliver care that meets the highest national standards, ensuring their safety at every encounter”.

Exemplary Accreditation Status demonstrates that HGMH not only meets national standards but exceeds them in many areas. The hospital remains committed to continuous improvement and to providing compassionate, safe, and patient-centred care to the communities it serves.
