Internationally Educated Nurses Start Their Pathway at HGMH
Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the recruitment of two internationally educated nurses (IEN) as part of its Supervised Practice Experience (SPE) program. The SPE program provides a pathway for internationally educated nurses to gain the necessary clinical experience and knowledge required to obtain licensure in Ontario.
These internationally educated nurses began their SPE program at HGMH on February 8th, 2023. Upon successful completion of the required hours, they will be eligible to take the licensure examination to become registered nurses in Ontario.
The hospital will provide close supervision, mentorship, and support to ensure that the students are able to get the most out of their time in the program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Claudette and Marjorie to HGMH.” said Kim Woods, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive. “Nursing shortages have been ongoing for quite some time, and this is a step in the right direction to help ease that burden. We are committed to ensuring that our SPE participants receive a high-quality, supportive experience and we are hopeful that we can fully onboard them once they’ve completed the program.”
From Overseas to Canada
Claudette Pullen was a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Netherlands for eight years prior to moving to Australia where she worked as a nurse for another 10 years in community health. In 2018, she made the move to Edmonton, Alberta and worked as a Healthcare Aide in Long Term Care. She began studying for her Registered Practical Nurse license and while waiting for approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario, passed her NCLEX and requirements for the RN SPE program. Claudette is excited about a return to her passion which is nursing.
Marjorie Cesicar was a Registered Nurse in the Philippines for three years prior to moving to Canada in 2013. While working as a PSW in a retirement home, she obtained her RPN license and then moved to Quebec and passed the NCLEX and educational requirements for the RN SPE program. She hopes to move closer to Alexandria and is looking forward to working at HGMH once she obtains her RN license.
